Understanding Polar Bear Behaviors

nicholasjpope

Today is Monday, November 1st. This is our second day exploring the Tundra. We learned about behaviors the polar bears do to show how they feel. In the picture there are two healthy males. They are fighting for practice. These bears need practice for when they find a mate. When they find the right mate they will have to defend himself to all the other male bears. By practicing for fun, they will learn the correct techniques and ways to win a fight.

You can tell a polar bear is ready to fight or very aggressive by looking at their eyes. When you see a white spot and their eyes roll they are showing aggression. Usually polar bears don't show the whites of their eyes so this shows anger.

Another common behavior for polar bears is showing there teeth. When they show their teeth they are sending a message. The message they are sending is to not mess with them. When living things see its mouth and teeth they are in awe by the huge k-9 teeth. This makes the polar bears reputation from a cute cuddly teddy bear change to a killing beast.
